Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the next anticipated installment in the hit stealth adventure series from Ubisoft, has released a new trailer about the 9th-century Baghdad setting. It showcases how the devs recreated Baghdad, ensured the authenticity of its history, and even its surrounding biomes.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage recently pushed up its launch date to October 5th, 2023, and pre-orders are available now. It will release on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Luna. You can watch today’s “recreating a lost city” trailer on the Ubisoft YouTube channel:

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is expected to refocus the franchise back to its roots, featuring the character Basim and more traditional gameplay mechanics. The devs have also previously teased the History of Baghdad feature, which is set to include expertly curated information. This is recapped in today’s trailer. And as a result, fan expectations for the quality and realism of Baghdad should be very high.

The new environment must expand the franchise forward while encouraging classic stealth and parkour. It needs to feel as vast, culturally authentic, and interesting as ever. Today’s trailer notes some of the key obstacles. For example, they mention that “almost nothing from the time period has survived to the present day”.

The new footage reveals that the team created four distinct and major districts for the city, including glimpses of in-progress gameplay and art from each. It already looks quite impressive, with bustling cities and lots of verticality that really contrast Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

These new glimpses may also give players a hint about the potential narrative beats and side quests. It was confirmed outright that the Banu Musa inventors will be helping Basim and the Hidden Ones. Baghdad is reinforced as a thriving and advanced place to explore, and the market district might even have the potential to connect with other games in the series.
