Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the next anticipated sequel in the historical adventure series from developer and publisher Ubisoft, has just released a new blog with key details about the upcoming “History of Baghdad” feature. It will include both tutorials and the familiar Database, and is directly tied into player progression, offering a completion reward.

The information has been curated by experts such as Dr. Raphaël Weyland and Dr. Glaire D. Anderson. There will be “66 historical sites” for players to discover, unlocking articles that discuss economy, daily life, art, and more.

History of Baghdad will also feature images from museum partners, reinforcing authenticity. Here’s a sample shot from today’s Ubisoft blog:

Assassin’s Creed has always thrived on its historical appeal. Not only does its dedication to realism help create an immersive gameplay experience, but it also encourages players to learn.

Ubisoft has consistently taken advantage of the opportunity to weave culture into their storytelling, so that players get a digestible thrill of discovery without feeling bogged down. Also, Ubisoft sometimes explores areas and topics that are too overlooked, and Mirage is an excellent example.

The History of Baghdad feature looks impressively extensive, and the commitment to involve so many experts is sure to result in some fascinating details.

The emphasis on how this is going to harken back to the early days of Assassin’s Creed is crucial. Fans have been divided over the shift in tone and gameplay over the last couple of titles, feeling that the franchise has moved away from classic stealth. History of Baghdad should feel like a comfy, familiar addition to further win over longtime fans who didn’t particularly take to Valhalla or Odyssey.

Assassin’s Creed is slated to launch on October 12th, 2023. It will be available on PC, Luna, PlayStation and Xbox.
