Hello Engineer, a vehicle construction and action game set in the Hello Neighbor universe from developer and publisher tinyBuild, will officially launch next week on August 17th, 2023. The announcement came with a new gameplay trailer, which breaks down all of the core mechanics.
Hello Engineer will be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam. Fans of the franchise can try a playable demo on Steam or Xbox right now. You can watch today’s release date trailer on the tinyBuild YouTube channel:
Hello Engineer is sort of a stretch to expand on the stealth horror classic, but it’s certainly a creative and unexpected one, nonetheless. The sense of tension seems to have been traded in for adrenaline, but the amusement park setting does look fairly expansive.
And although there is a sandbox mode, there will also be a story mode that supports cooperative gameplay, where players must build vehicles to challenge the Neighbor and their evil bots, including a series of boss battles. Hopefully, the story will take the opportunity to concentrate on escape, to align with the Hello Neighbor universe a bit more.
Today’s trailer showcases a variety of features, including a crafting system that looks pretty flexible. In addition to traditional vehicle components like frame parts, gears, engines and wheels, players can also build with weapons and even electrical circuits.
It’s certainly in-depth, and smartly distances itself from LEGO 2K Drive, which we reviewed back in May. It similarly allows players to create their own vehicles for racing, but its scavenged parts and offbeat look fit with the Hello Neighbor universe.
For something more traditional, Hello Neighbor VR: Search and Rescue is getting a September release date for PSVR1.
