Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, the highly anticipated sequel from developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs, has just released a new character spotlight featuring Squidward, one of the key additions to the upcoming roster.

The new trailer is one in a series of spotlights. Today’s spotlight showcases Squidward’s basic move set, grab and charge attacks, double-jump cancels and more.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is currently slated to launch in Fall 2023. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch Squidward’s full character breakdown on the official GameMill Entertainment YouTube channel:

Squidward is a natural follow-up for SpongeBob’s gameplay overview trailer, which only just released yesterday. Hopefully, the devs will also release a spotlight for Jimmy Neutron. Like Squidward, they were a real highlight from the original announcement trailer from July. It was a surprise that they focused on characters like Plankton earlier on.

Judging by today’s spotlight, there are certain to be plenty of Squidward mains. As noted by the devs, Squidward offers the player a lot of control in the air, thanks to double-jump cancels and multiple spiking maneuvers. Their meta seems a little tough to master, but also very rewarding.

Players will need to take some risks and head directly into the fray to set up some highly punishing combos. One of his key abilities leaves him vulnerable “for a few seconds”, which can be an eternity in just about any fighting platformer.

Also, Squidward’s side special “Artistic Genius” actually has RNG, which could be very difficult for newcomers to manage.

However, skilled players who are already familiar with the genre are certain to capitalize on Squidward’s kit in some very creative ways, with a lot of room for improvisation. Advanced players will likely feel dangerously unpredictable with Artistic Genius, rather than panicked and desperate.

It should also be noted that Squidward’s animation looks fantastic, authentic to his personality and filled with fan service.
