Splatoon 3, Nintendo’s hit third-person shooter, has just revealed a new content overview trailer for the upcoming “Drizzle Season”. The new season will begin on September 1st, 2023. It will introduce new stages like Crableg Capital and Shipshape Cargo Co., the Dread Wringer main weapon, the return of Salmonid Smokeyard and more.

Splatoon 3 is available now on the Nintendo Switch. You can watch today’s new gameplay trailer on the official Nintendo YouTube channel:

Splatoon 3 likes to pace itself, but the content updates are consistent and often pay off with a decent number of reinvigorating additions. There are also frequent Splatfests to look forward to, which often tie into major Nintendo events like the Legend of Zelda Splatfest from last May.

Shipshape Cargo Co. is surely a highlight of the new content. It’s a creative change of scenery that remains thematic and offers some interesting level design. While it seems a little small, the elevation and lines of sight will encourage players to be a little more strategic. Skilled players will have plenty of opportunities to escape, regroup, and turn the tide.

There will also be new cards for Tableturf Battle. It’s rather surprising just how little time these cards were allotted, and it would’ve been nice if the trailer defined these clearly. The in-universe card game was always an unexpected delight that makes the world feel more lived in.

The new challenges should be fun, particularly “Inkjets for Everyone!”, since flight causes serious unpredictability and chaos. “Swim It to Win It” might be fine enough, but players are probably already accustomed to tactical swimming, so it has less novelty by comparison.

New cosmetics like the fresh Work Suits were teased in today’s trailer. They’re certainly detailed, but also a little underwhelming.
