Ubisoft is readying the stage for the thirteenth chapter in the celebrated Assassin’s Creed series. Unconfirmed reports emerging from Japan hint at an October 12 release date for the new installment, Assassin’s Creed Mirage. While no official statement has been made by Ubisoft, it is significant to note that Japanese retailers usually adhere strictly to official dates.
Mirage sets its stage primarily in ninth-century Baghdad, a city divided into four districts and the fortress headquarters of the Hidden Ones, Alamut. Echoing the vibe of the franchise’s older titles, Mirage is an action-adventure stealth game, taking a linear and story-driven approach. This change also entails a reduction in the number of role-playing elements that have become prominent in recent installments. Core gameplay components such as parkour, close-quarter combat, and stealth return, alongside the beloved “Black Box” assassination missions from Assassin’s Creed Unity and Syndicate.
The protagonist, Basim Ibn Ishaq, voiced by Lee Majdoub, starts his journey as a street thief. As the game progresses, he evolves into a Hidden One, mentored by Roshan, voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo. As a member of the Hidden Ones, Basim has a wide range of weapons and tools at his disposal, including the iconic Assassin Hidden Blade and smoke bombs.
Before the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Mirage unfolds as a “coming-of-age story.” The narrative takes place over decades, underscoring Basim’s transformation from a petty thief to a selfless champion of a cause greater than himself.
Details surrounding Mirage first surfaced under the codename Rift before its official announcement at Ubisoft Forward on September 10, 2022. The game was initially planned as an expansion pack for Valhalla but evolved into a standalone release. Ubisoft has defined Mirage as a compact Assassin’s Creed title, celebrating the series’ 15th anniversary. The game leverages the technology built for Valhalla to deliver an experience reminiscent of the first Assassin’s Creed. Gameplay is expected to span around 15–20 hours, akin to earlier titles in the franchise.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be accessible across various platforms, including PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, and Amazon Luna.
