No Man’s Sky has truly evolved over time, and the free Leviathan update adds a lot of new features that are available right now on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
Here’s the official tweet, which briefly mentions all of the latest additions to the game:
The trailer begins by showing off the new space whales. They also have a squid-like appearance, making them a sort of space kraken.
But they might also be a fun nod to Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because that sci-fi classic is actually celebrated today on May 25th, “Towel Day”.
Community Expedition breakdown
The biggest highlight of the trailer is the introduction of a time loop. Time travel is one of the most popular story mechanics in science-fiction, especially in space, where even time dilation plays an important role in more grounded sci-fi.
The time loop will offer roguelike gameplay, where players must collect procedurally generated memory fragments, and escape the loop. Death resets the loop, but fans can work together. In fact, more participating Travellers will increase the upgrades and rewards.
There will be a narrative throughout the event, centered around the Leviathan, and PvP mode will default to off so that players can’t grief each other.
Fans will have six weeks to explore the new Community Expedition, and earn exclusive rewards during the event. You’ll be able to earn a whalestalker cloak with a Moby Dick-inspired origin, a ship trail, and base decorations.
But the true prizes are the Leviathan itself for your fleet, and a baby calf for your base. If this isn’t enough, No Man’s Sky has also promised even stranger updates in the future:
There were also a variety of small bug fixes in the patch notes, and you can find the complete list on the blog post here. You can read more great content about No Man’s Sky and other space epics in our news section!
