The Destiny series has managed to be successful in the sci-fi genre in a way that not many would have expected at release, with the game constantly changing to be a better experience for players. Following a poorly received blog post last week, Game Director Joe Blackburn has shared a nearly 17-minute video on Twitter detailing the planned upcoming changes to Destiny 2.
Blackburn begins by sharing that he knows fans were disappointed with the way previous information was communicated about the state of the game. The video is his endeavor to create a more clear and personable communication about Destiny and what’s planned. He narrows down the topics over the long video to five items: the planned reveal, PvP, armor, and communication strategy moving forward.
The first news he drops is that there has been a showcase recorded and planned ahead of the State of the Game post, created independently of it. Since it will reach a wider audience, fans should expect more cinematics and less details about what’s included. The story and how Destiny 2 will change after the end of the DLC will also be touched on.
The PvP will be more focused on balance and ritual updates to create a more equal experience for everyone. While the previous plan was only one new map per year, Blackburn states that there will be a free map pack released in 2024 that will provide a better Crucible. Competitive will also be getting changes that will make winning and losing affect your score more heavily.
Armor changes include that the developer has changed the way it drops loot, with a stronger focus on late-game stuff. However, it failed to communicate that and led to confusion among players and the reason that a specific armor set from Lightfall never dropped. To make up for this, an Eververse set will now be a Ritual reward in Season 22, available for anyone to earn for free.
Moving forward Blackburn plans to be more open with the community to ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed. The game will continue to use the branded social media accounts as it has in the past, but Blackburn will also be livestreaming and otherwise putting himself in front of the community to be available to them.
