Starfield, the upcoming spacefaring RPG from Bethesda Game Studios, has just released a trio of animated trailers, each featuring a different glimpse of major cities in the Settled Systems. These include Supra Et Ultra, Where Hope is Built, and The Hand that Feeds.

Starfield is slated to launch on September 6th, 2023. It will be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch today’s new animated trailers on the Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel. Here’s the Supra Et Ultra trailer:

The visual style of this anthology is incredible, harkening back to old school animation and anime. These stories are told through pure imagery, and still manage to convey the immense scope of the game.

The characters and worlds are highly distinguishable, each showcasing a range of societies and issues that would be compelling to explore. And that’s important for a game that has been so determined to underline absolute freedom, from character creation to adventure. While there have been some comparisons to previous Bethesda universes, there’s still plenty of personality.

It’s unclear if the characters in today’s anthology trailers will actually appear in-game, or if they are simply examples of the worldbuilding that fans should expect. Fans are already invested, so it would certainly be a thrill to meet them.

Either way, the trailers also show off some of the moral decisions players could face, notably the opportunities to take sides in various conflicts, as seen in The Hand that Feeds:

It would be terrific if the devs continued to release even more animation. There are surely countless worlds, and there’s plenty of time before launch. The intense positive feedback is invitation enough, and the animation has already created lots of speculation. Ideally, the surprising marketing campaign for Starfield accurately reflects the innovation of the game itself.
