The hype leading up to Bethesda’s next major title, Starfield, is real, with the developer building hype as we are less than a month away from the release of the title. To get players even more excited, the developers sat down for a question and answer segment in its Discord, with fans able to submit questions ahead of time. While much was revealed, the developers made clear being a pacifist wasn’t one of them.
These answers were compiled by a user on ResetEra, detailing the different information revealed from the questions that were asked. One of the prompts asked the Lead Designer Emil Pagliarulo and Lead Quest Designer Will Shen if players will be able to complete a “pacifist mode” using traits selected at the start of the game, and they both stated that it wasn’t a possibility.
Shen states that it’s possible, but he “can’t guarantee that every mission can be completed in Pacifist mode,” even if there are systems in place meant to help that. However, Pagliarulo was a bit more clear in his sentiments, saying the following.
So, we talked about this very early on during pre-production, whether or not we would fully support a “non-lethal” playthrough. We realized that, for various reasons, that wasn’t totally feasible. Now, that being said, there are some good non-lethal options, whether through dialogue or by using a non-lethal weapon. Those can be used in certain situations, honestly a lot of situations, though I couldn’t comfortably say you can complete the entire game without any killing whatsoever.
