Alan Wake 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to the classic thriller from developer Remedy Entertainment, has officially pushed its release date to October 27th, 2023. Originally expected to launch on October 17th, the devs announced today’s delay in a new tweet, which cites that they simply wanted “more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games”.
Alan Wake 2 will be available on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can revisit the gameplay reveal trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel:
The new delay is considerably small at just over a week, which is mostly negligible. And the devs have made it clear that this is only a marketing decision. So, Alan Wake 2 doesn’t seem to need any last-minute polishing, which is usually the cause for delay.
Naturally, fans have been very supportive of the decision, and can often be understanding with much longer delays in exchange for a proper launch experience.
Delaying Alan Wake 2 may very well be a wise move, as there’s certainly some decent competition, and the game will still arrive on the weekend before Halloween. If anything, players should likely be delighted that the return will be so thematic. The weekend timing will also allow some binging, which is appropriate for such a narrative-driven series.
Alan Wake 2 has smartly emphasized its storytelling prowess with each trailer, even dedicated a full behind-the-scenes featurette about the new character Saga Anderson. All of the action and survival horror pack a real punch because players are legitimately invested in the characters.
The new mystery also promises to remain up to par with its predecessor. Alan Wake 2 is shaping up to be quite an elaborate follow-up, using all of the latest tools and some very fresh ideas, so it’ll definitely be worth the wait.
