Ride 5, the next highly anticipated sequel in the hit motorcycle racing series from developer and publisher Milestone, will officially launch on August 24th, 2023.
Ride 5 will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as next-gen consoles for PlayStation and Xbox fans. There is still no word on a port for the Nintendo Switch. You can watch the full announcement trailer on the Milestone YouTube channel here:
Today’s new trailer is a combination of cinematics and brief glimpses of gameplay, so there aren’t too many details for fans to nitpick. However, the central themes are freedom and ambition, and not just in-game.
The trailer closes by suggesting that players can race “anytime, anywhere”, and that Ride 5 goes “beyond racing”. These hint that Ride 5 could offer the most expansive features yet. While it could be simple marketing, it would be a mistake for the devs to set those kinds of expectations without the ability to deliver.
Besides, those goals are basically the point of any Ride sequel to begin with. Fans expect to see even more bikes, tracks, and visual improvements. A lot of responses are already calling for classic bikes, which would indeed look glorious with current-gen tech. Ideally, the sequel will be able to harness next-gen consoles to add new kinds of content that also function properly.
Milestone tends to receive a lot of criticism for some of its lower budget series, which do tend to be churned out like obligatory clockwork. MotoGP 23 recently announced a June release date, but at least it will introduce weather conditions and has flag-to-flag.
Ride is a cornerstone of Milestone, featuring some of the most authentic mechanics for any racing game, as well as some of the most demanding. The series continues to appease the most invested motorcycle enthusiasts.
