Ride 5, an upcoming motorcycle racing sequel in the hit franchise from developer and publisher Milestone, has just released an official gameplay trailer. It features three different tracks, the Suzuka Circuit, Blue Wave Circuit, and Auto Polis. There’s also a look at how rain conditions will affect players.
Ride 5 was first announced last month and is currently slated to launch on August 24th, 2023. It will be available on PC and current-gen Xbox or PlayStation consoles. You can watch today’s new gameplay trailer on the Milestone YouTube channel:
The highlight of today’s trailer should have been the introduction of weather, which is a major new feature. The official Steam page even mentions that weather can rapidly shift in-game, alternating between rain and sunshine on the same course.
And the rain seen in today’s trailer does look convincing. It dampens the foliage, dulls the colors, and the track looks sleek. The Ride series is considered one of Milestone’s more authentic properties. Aside from sprinkling the camera to obscure your view, it’ll be interesting to see how rain demands your driving skills to adapt.
But the Blue Wave Circuit made the real splash today, quickly earning praise from fans. It does look very dynamic, with different kinds of elevation and a good variety of scenery. The track doesn’t feel quite as monotone as others do, while still maintaining the challenges of a professional race. It also happens to be very colorful, and the track itself has a good balance of tight corners and long stretches of speed.
It’s important to note that the trailer clearly establishes the gameplay is still a work in progress, but it already looks gorgeous. Many of the smaller details, from physics to cosmetics, are impressive.
